This World Cancer Day, we pause to reflect on the journeys of those affected by cancer—patients, families, and caregivers alike. It is a day to acknowledge the courage it takes to fight, support, and navigate the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
At SATO, our credo guides how we approach every challenge, including those that extend beyond our business. We believe in customer-centric innovation that makes a real difference, and we see it as our responsibility to support healthcare professionals in delivering the highest standard of patient care.
Two of our team members, Sophie and Shiki, share their deeply personal stories — reminding us that beyond statistics and technology, cancer care is about people, resilience, and the moments that matter most.
A Father’s Strength: Sophie’s Story
For eighteen months, Sophie Pulford, our Business Development Manager, watched her father fight cancer with unwavering determination. A man who refused to let illness define him, he kept cycling — his greatest passion — until just eight weeks before his passing.

Dad taught me so much, but the biggest lesson was his resilience. He showed me how precious every moment is," Sophie shares. "Losing him was heartbreaking, but I carry his spirit with me every day. I try to live the way he did—fully, with courage and gratitude.
For those supporting a loved one through cancer, Sophie offers this advice:
It can feel overwhelming, and there’s no right way to navigate it. But you’re not alone. Lean on others who’ve been through similar experiences, find support networks, and remember to take care of yourself, too. The more balanced you are, the more you can be there for your loved one. Face it together, with love and hope.
At SATO, we believe in seeing things as they are and doing the right thing right away — and part of that means standing beside those in our community who need support, just as we stand beside our customers.
Finding Meaning in the Journey: Shiki’s Insight
When a loved one is diagnosed with cancer, we often feel an instinctive need to “fix” things. But as Shiki Chan, our Head of Marketing – Oceania, reminds us, caregiving isn’t about having all the answers.

Our role as caregivers isn’t to fix everything. It’s to walk alongside them, offering support in whatever way they need," Shiki says. "Everyone handles a diagnosis differently — some with strength, some with fear, some with uncertainty. What matters most is helping them find moments of meaning. Whether it’s a quiet conversation, a shared laugh, or a new memory made together, those moments matter. They bring comfort, connection, and love.
Care, at its core, is about trust — trusting that even in difficult moments, we can be there for one another in the ways that matter most. This belief in putting people first is what drives us at SATO, not only in how we support each other but in how we approach our work.
For those in the healthcare field, providing care isn’t just about treating a condition — it’s about ensuring that patients feel safe, supported, and prioritised. That’s why we believe technology should empower, not replace, human connection.
Supporting Patient-Centred Care with PJM RFID Technology
We believe that innovation should always be customer-centric — and in healthcare, that means patient-centred.
Our PJM RFID technology helps hospitals and healthcare providers reduce risks, improve efficiency, and ensure the right resources are available at the right time — allowing medical professionals to focus on what truly matters: patient care.
Technology That Supports the People Who Save Lives
- Real-Time Tracking and Operational Efficiency for Patient Care
PJM RFID empowers healthcare professionals with precise real-time tracking of blood components and medical supplies, ensuring their availability when needed.
By automating inventory updates and monitoring live data, the system reduces human errors and boosts operational efficiency. This ensures the timely and accurate delivery of medications and blood components, while First Expiry, First Out (FEFO) practices and optimised supplier coordination minimise waste, streamlining the overall care process.
- Enhance Patient Safety and Compliance
PJM RFID enhances patient safety by tracking critical information such as patient IDs, dosage, expiration dates, and lot numbers. This enables accurate bedside verification and minimises medication errors.
Real-time monitoring ensures cold chain compliance and safety standards are met. At the same time, automated timestamps and detailed records support audits and regulatory compliance, further reinforcing patient safety at every stage of care.
- Improve Security, Reduce Fraud and Minimise Waste for Better Care
PJM RFID bolsters the security of medical supplies by triggering alarms for unauthorised access, preventing theft or fraud.
It also optimises resource allocation by aligning inventory with patient demand, reducing overstocking and minimising waste.
This ensures life-saving treatments are available and used within their effective lifespan, improving care quality and minimising delays.
Just as we seek to be true professionals by exceeding the expectations of our customers, we are committed to helping the healthcare industry exceed the expectations of the patients they serve.
Standing Together — As One Team
At SATO, we believe in working together as one cohesive team—not just within our company, but with our customers, partners, and communities.
This World Cancer Day, we honour the resilience of those facing cancer, the unwavering support of caregivers, and the dedication of healthcare professionals working to improve patient care every day.
We remain committed to pioneering innovation that makes a difference, supporting those who give their all to care for others, and living by our values—because real change happens when we put people first.
