Thermal ribbon
types we offer

Thermal transfer ribbons come in many ink formulations, and choosing the wrong one can result in useless labels. Print quality can be poor, the ink can smear or fade, and choosing the wrong ribbon can force operators to reduce the speed of their printers. The proper ribbon formulation depends on the material being printed on. 

  • Wax Ribbon

    Wax ribbons are the most commonly used ribbon type and provide an economical solution for thermal transfer labels. Wax ribbons can be used with comparatively absorbent uncoated face papers and coated papers.

    Ideal for: Short term; shipping labels, compliance labelling

    T101A A wax ribbon that offers excellent print quality and improved durability on paper and synthetic substrates.
    T124A  A wax ribbon that offers excellent print quality and high-speed printing. Ideal for use on high-speed applicators.
  • Wax/Resin Ribbon

    Wax/resin ribbons provide high performance for various applications. When using a wax/resin ribbon, the printed images can be more durable and mechanically resistant. These ribbons are designed for non-absorbent materials like coated paper and films, and can also be used with Vellum when exceptional mechanical resistance is needed.

    Ideal for: Bin location labels, horticulture tags, healthcare labels

    T102E A wax/resin ribbon ideal for use on coated papers, polypropylene, and polyethylene substrates.
    T104G  A wax/resin ribbon ideal for use on coated papers, polypropylene and polyethylene substrates where additional durability is desired.
    T111L  A wax/resin ribbon that demonstrates superior print quality and image density on a wide range of coated and uncoated paper and synthetic substrates.
  • Resin Ribbon

    Resin ribbons are designed for use in very demanding applications. Images printed with a resin ribbon highly resist mechanical wear, solvents and heat. This ribbon type is usually used with film-type face materials like PE, PP and PET, and comparatively less transfer ink is required to produce an opaque image.

    Ideal for: Chemical drum labels, circuit board labels, agency-recognised labels

    R333A  This is a full resin ribbon for excellent print quality on polyester substrates. It offers exceptional print quality at high speeds and high heat and excellent scratch, smudge, and smear resistance.
    R335D  A high-performance resin ribbon designed for the most demanding resistance to abrasion, scratch, smudge, smear, high temperature and solvents. Particularly suitable for printing on polyester and polyimide synthetic labels.

What are the storage conditions for thermal ribbons?

Please store in cool and dark place. Avoid hot, humid and abnormally dry conditions.

Do I have warranty coverage on my ribbons?

SATO offers a one-year warranty policy from the package delivery date.

Can ribbons print in colour?

Most thermal prints are only in black, but colour ribbons, including metallic inks, are available. Please contact us to find out more.
