What is PJM RFID?
What is PJM RFID
PJM RFID (Phase Jitter Modulation Radio Frequency Identification) is an advanced RFID technology designed for high-speed, accurate identification of large volumes of tagged items, even when stacked or stored in any orientation.
Here are the key aspects of PJM RFID:
- Technology:
- PJM is a modulation method designed specifically for passive RFID tags.
- It operates in the high-frequency band and complies with ISO/IEC 18000-3 Mode 2 standard.
- Performance:
- Offers 100% accuracy in identifying tagged items.
- Capable of reading up to 600 tags per second.
- Features high-speed data rates with a command data rate of 424 kbits per second.
- Unique Features:
- Close Stacking: PJM StackTag™ inlets are designed to be identified, read, and written to when stacked closely together.
- Orientation Insensitive: Can read tags in any orientation due to 3D antenna technology.
- Robust: Ability to frequency hop and reply on any of 8 discrete channels.
- Large Memory Capacity: PJM tags have a 4kbit OTP (One-Time Programmable) memory.
- Applications:
- Primarily used in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, gaming, and document management industries.
- Specific applications include blood tracking, medical device management, and confidential document tracking.
- Advantages:
- Performs reliably in environments with metal and liquids, unlike other RFID technologies.
- Provides real-time inventory visibility and automated tracking.
- Enhances patient safety in medical applications by ensuring accurate identification and tracking of items.
PJM RFID technology, developed in our R&D facility in Australia, SATO Vicinity, and now part of SATO's product offerings, provides a solution for situations requiring quick and accurate identification of large volumes of tagged items, especially in dynamic environments where items may be stacked or stored in various orientations.
RFID v.s. PJM RFID?
How does HF/UHF RFID differ from PJM RFID?
PJM RFID, developed specifically for passive RFID tags, offers superior performance in challenging environments. Unlike HF/UHF RFID, PJM guarantees 100% read accuracy, even with densely stacked or randomly oriented items. It operates at much higher speeds and is capable of reading hundreds of tags per second compared to general RFID's typical 30 tags per second. PJM excels in the presence of liquids and metals, which often interfere with general RFID signals.
Additionally, PJM tags have a larger memory capacity and can withstand medical-grade sterilisation processes. While general RFID is widely used across various industries, PJM RFID is particularly suited for applications requiring high-speed, accurate identification of multiple items in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and document management sectors.
Blood & Pathology
Vein-to-Vein PJM RFID Blood Tracking Solution
This PJM RFID solution offers unparalleled accuracy and reliability for blood product management. Utilising ISO 18000-3 Mode 2 compliant PJM RFID technology ensures 100% read accuracy and high-speed identification of blood components, even in tightly packed conditions.
The system supports real-time inventory visibility and ultra-low temperature storage and is FDA-recognised for safety. With features like stackability, 3D orientation, and NFC for bedside management, SATO’s solution enhances traceability from donation to transfusion, ensuring patient safety and operational efficiency in blood centres and hospitals.
Orthopedic Implants
Orthopedic Implants Management
We offer two comprehensive medical device tracking solutions for both suppliers and hospitals.
For suppliers, PJM Orbit™ streamlines loan kit management, consolidating booking, preference management, dispatch, reconciliation, and reporting into one system. It boasts up to 75% reduction in kit logistics time and 90% labour savings in dispatch and return processes, ensuring 100% shipment accuracy.
For hospitals, PJM Assure™ enhances inventory management and patient safety. It provides real-time visibility of implants, automates stock replenishment, and ensures accurate billing. The system supports efficient OR processes, reducing procedure delays and minimising manual data entry errors.
Both solutions utilise SATO VICINITY's PJM RFID technology, the industry standard in Australia and New Zealand since 2005. These integrated systems improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance patient care by ensuring accurate tracking of medical devices throughout the supply chain and within healthcare facilities.
PJM RFID Printer
Convenient and portable benchtop reader that provides outstanding read and encode capabilities at high speed and reliability.
With a 400mm x 400mm aperture, it can read up to 600 tags/sec at extremely high speeds with 100% accuracy, even when tags are stacked close together in different orientations.
