PDF, or Portable Document File, is a widely used file format in many core IT systems, including ERP, MES, and WMS, as well as in OS and other computer applications. Traditionally, printing PDF data onto a label requires a printer driver or custom-built software to convert the data into a graphic, image, or dataflow, which creates a longer process that can affect supply chain inefficiency.

With SATO’s PDF Direct Print, integrated printer software enables SATO printers to directly print PDF data from other systems onto labels. This streamlines the label printing process, minimising errors and enhancing productivity.

Product Features

PDF Direct Print supports all languages available in PDF. It uses fonts embedded in a PDF file to prevent text garbling.

PDF Direct Print resides in the printer’s memory and processes PDF data internally. PC-less operation saves cost, space and time required to manage additional devices.

PDF Direct Print generates clear and crisp fonts and barcodes. It can also control colour density. High-speed internal processing ensures high throughput.

PDF Direct Print supports every printer communication interface, including wireless LAN, USB and Bluetooth, enabling flexible applications to any environment.

Users have the option to specify the number of labels to cut from a single piece of data, which works alongside the page-splitting function. Additionally, there is an option to cut after a specific number of printed labels, providing flexible operation.

SATO AEP (Application Enabled Printing) enables more advanced operations through an API. For instance, it allows the printer to monitor the PLC and start printing as soon as the preceding production step is completed.

One PDF page can be split into multiple labels.
